Trump admin accuses Zohran Mamdani, Hasan Piker, BLM, & George Floyd of conspiring with Cuba

The new report also called the co-founder of Ben & Jerry's ice cream a political subversive.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio promised Monday at a “political terrorism summit” that his State Department will soon designate various left-wing groups in the U.S. as terrorist organizations. On the same day, he released a 100-page report naming 43 individuals and groups that the Trump administration alleges have ties to Cuba’s “campaign of subversion against the United States.”

The report called Cuba “the capital of 21st century communism” and claimed that it has “carried out one of the most durable and damaging” campaigns of “espionage, infiltration, sabotage, proxy networks, and a revolutionary infrastructure designed to turn America against itself.”

The report then claims that Cuba has ties to the civil rights era Black activist group The Black Panthers, antifa (anti-fascist activists), “leftist nonprofits,” anti-ICE collectives, socialist groups, and Marxist organizations across the nation, which it says have infiltrated the nation primarily through colleges and universities. In the past, the Trump administration has said that anyone who protests against it is a part of antifa.

While the report details attacks from alleged leftist organizations during the 1960s and ’70s, it doesn’t mention covert and violent operations that U.S. officials launched against leftist organizations and governments during that same period. The report also names iconic Black racial justice activists, like Angela Davis and Huey P. Newton, as examples of Cuba’s influence over the “liberal mainstream.”

Among the 43 individual and groups named in the report accused of having political ties to Cuba are the racial justice protest group Black Lives Matters, the Democratic Socialists of America (including its most high-profile elected official, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani), the feminist protest group CodePink (which once humiliated Trump in a public restaurant), changingFrequencies (a self-described “Black Queer Feminist led, abolitionist organizing project”), Ben Cohen (the pro-Palestinian co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream), murdered Black Minneapolis resident George Floyd, Amy Goodman (the host of Democracy Now!), Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MI), progressive podcaster Hasan Piker, and Black U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA).

The Trump administration has repeatedly threatened war against Cuba, and has signaled its intentions to prosecute left-wing organizations as domestic terrorists, even though incidents of right-wing violence far outnumber instances of left-wing violence.
